California Legislative Alert 4/25/03

Several Bills are up for consideration and vote in the California

Legislature. Key members of the legislature need to be contacted to

ensure proper action is taken on these measures.

HANDGUN TEST REPEAL, AB201 (Samuelian) would eliminate the requirement to take the handgun safety test for handgun purchasers every 5 years, will be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee On Tuesday, April 29.

Please call Assembly members Bermudez and Longville and ask them to vote "YES" on AB 201.

TARGET RIFLE BAN, AB50 (Koretz) would ban the sale of all .50 caliber rifles, will be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, April 29. Please call Assembly members, Bermudez and Longville, and ask them to vote "NO" on AB 50.

AMMO TAX, AB 992 (Riddley-Thomas), would impose a sales tax of ten cents per cartridge will be heard in the Assembly Health Committee On Tuesday, April 29. The tax on a brick of .22 caliber rounds would cost a law-abiding gun owner 50 dollars! Please call the committee members and ask them to vote "NO" on AB 992.

HANDGUN BAN, SB601 (Perata) has been introduced and will be heard in Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday May 6. This bill would Ban All 50 caliber handguns. Please call the committee members and ask them to vote "NO" on SB 601.

SEMI-AUTO HANDGUN RESTRICTION, SB190 (Scott) will be heard in Senate Public Safety on April 29. This bill would BAN all Semi-auto Handguns that do not have BOTH a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator. This requirement would ban the sale of almost all of the Semi-auto handguns currently legal for sale in California. Please call the committee members and ask them to vote "NO" on SB190.
